Frostburg, Md. – The St. Mary's College
of Maryland women's soccer team dropped to fourth in the Capital
Athletic Conference standings with a 5-0 loss to Frostburg State
University Saturday afternoon as senior forward Lauren
Russell (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) recorded a hat trick.
Frostburg State (12-3, 5-2 CAC) went into intermission with a
1-0 advantage as Russell netted her first of the
afternoon off an assist by senior midfielder Kierstin
Stevenson (Frostburg, Md./Beall) at 37:36.
Russell and Stevenson teamed
up for the Bobcats' second goal as Russell headed
in Stevenson's second helper of the afternoon at
57:37. Russell struck again with an
unassisted tally at 61:24. Sophomore defender Liz
Seligman (Rockville, Md./St. John's College) sent a corner
kick into the box that senior defender Heather
Fleishell (Middletown, Md./Middletown) headed in at
66:58.
The Bobcats' final goal came with less than five minutes
remaining in the contest as first-year forward Adia
Graham (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) finished off an
assist from junior defender Nikki Rieland (Mt.
Airy, Md./South Carroll) at 85:55.
FSU posted a 27-6 advantage in shots while corner kicks were
even at six apiece.
Sophomores Tori Eskay
(Damascus, Md./Urbana) and Carly Harmon
(Davisburg, Mich./Holly) each notched a shot on goal for the
Seahawks (4-6-1, 4-2 CAC).
First-year Kelsey Wirtz
(Parkton, Md./Hereford) picked up eight saves and four goals
against in 70 minutes of action while first-year Shelby Perkins
(Forest Hill, Md./Notre Dame Prep) had three stops in the final 20
minutes.
Junior Heather Buckmaster (St. Leonard,
Md./Calvert) recorded her third shutout of the season with two
stops.
St. Mary's will look to rebound tomorrow when the Seahawks
welcome Washington & Lee University to Seahawk Stadium for
non-conference action at 2:00 pm.
