Pomona, N.J. – In his first career start,
senior goalie Matt Savopoulos (Scaggsville,
Md./Reservoir) displayed his mettle against a formidable Richard
Stockton College squad, allowing just one goal in the St.
Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team 1-0 loss
to host Richard Stockton Saturday afternoon.
Richard Stockton (9-4-1) dominated from start to finish but
struggled to get anything past Savopoulos and the
Seahawk defense until there was 7:13 remaining in the
contest. Senior forward Rafael Duarte (Ocean
City, N.J./Ocean City) scored from close on a senior midfielder
Sean Nelson (Toms River/Toms River South)
assist.
The Ospreys notched a 13-4 shot advantage but
Savopoulos turned away five shots. RSC
posted a 7-3 margin in corner kicks as well.
Senior captains Amir Reda (Odenton, Md./DeMatha
Catholic) and Kevin Seeger (Gaithersburg,
Md./Northwest) and junior defender Drew Gainey
(Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) all took shots on target for the
Seahawks (3-8-1).
St. Mary's will take a shot at Johns Hopkins University,
who is ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region, on Columbus Day in
Baltimore at 7:00 pm.
