St. Mary's Drops 4-0 Decision to Babson

Box Score

Vero Beach, Fla. – Historic Dodgertown has yet to be kind to the St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team as St. Mary's dropped its second straight game in the Sunshine State Monday morning, suffering a 4-0 setback at the hands of Babson College.  Despite connecting on 10 hits, the Seahawks (3-8) were unable to cross home plate and left 11 on base.

First-year Kyle Lyon (Flemington, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) threw 5.1 innings to record his first collegiate victory, allowing seven hits and striking out four Seahawk batters.

Babson (1-2) claimed a 2-0 lead in the first inning when first-year Chris Kucher (Westwood, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) lined a single to left that scored sophomore Billy Miller (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Boston College HS), who had singled, and senior captain Dave Ahern (Bedford, Mass./Bedford), who had walked.

The Beavers added another run in the third when senior captain Peter O'Toole (Salem, Mass./St. John's Prep) doubled down the leftfield line, moved to third on a single by Miller, and scored on an RBI double to right center by sophomore Travis Jonasson (Needham, Mass./Catholic Memorial).

Jonasson later scored Babson's fourth and final run in the sixth, when he led off with a single, took second on a passed ball, and scored on a base hit by senior Jake Bartlett (Weymouth, Mass./Boston College HS).

Junior Matt Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) went 3-for-4 at the plate with a stolen base to pace the St. Mary's offense while senior Lyle Kralle (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) and first-year Andrew Osborne (Damascus, Md./Damascus) each finished 2-for-3.  Sophomore Nick Vergelli (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) also connected on two singles.

Sophomore Mike Victory (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) was saddled with the loss as Victory (0-3) gave up three runs on eight hits with strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work.

The Seahawks hope to turn the tide tomorrow when they face Central (Iowa) College at 1:00 pm at Historic Dodgertown.
