St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of its 2009-10 season with a 9-0 shutout of Lancaster Bible College Saturday afternoon.

Senior Sam Barton (Edgewater, Md./Key) recorded his third straight singles victory with a two-set (6-0, 6-0) win over senior Brendan Arey (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) at the No. 2 singles flight while junior Jeff Levy (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) tallied his first win of the season with a 6-3, 6-0 win over sophomore Josh Formanek (Allentown, Pa./Palisades).

Barton then teamed up with senior Kenny Nugent (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) for the duo's third straight win at No. 2 doubles as Barton/Nugent posted an 8-1 win over the tandem of Formanek and first-year Brandon Klinger (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO).

St. Mary's will be back in action tomorrow as the Seahawks travel to College Park to face the University of Maryland Terrapins at 1:00 pm.
