York, Pa. – York College of Pennsylvania
knocked St. Mary's College of Maryland out of the 2010
Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament in second round
action Thursday afternoon as the second-seeded Spartans posted a
9-2 victory over No. 6 seed St. Mary's.
York (18-11) broke open a tight game in the fourth inning with
five runs as the Spartans connected on three RBI singles while
senior Rick Shumway (Shippensburg,
Pa./Shippensburg Area) made contact for a two-out, RBI triple.
Junior RHP Andrew Rosenzweig (Glen Rock,
Pa./Susquehannock) threw 6.0 strong innings for his third win of
the season, allowing just one run on three hits with only one
walk.
York notched a 2-0 lead in the first before St. Mary's
(9-23) cut the lead to one in the second when junior Bobby Corton (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall) scored on junior
Brad Shepherd's (Columbia, Md./Oakland
Mills) two-out double after Corton reached on a
fielder's choice and then stole second.
After breaking out in the fourth, the Spartans tacked on two
more in the sixth before the Seahawks tallied their final run of
the game in the seventh as senior Jacen Killebrew
(La Plata, Md./La Plata) came home on senior Lyle Kralle's (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) infield
single after Killebrew doubled to right center and
advanced to third on an error.
Kralle performed well for the Seahawks with a
3-for-4 effort at the plate and one RBI. Sophomore
Mike Victory (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy)
took the loss on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings with seven runs
(three earned) on nine hits.
The Seahawks still have three games remaining in their 2010
campaign and St. Mary's will host Christopher Newport
University on Tuesday, April 20 at 3:00 pm in the Hawk's Nest
before welcoming Washington (Md.) College the next day at 3:00 pm
as well.
