Box Score
Dover, Del. – Junior RHP Ryan
Doran (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) pitched a gem in leading
Wesley College to a 9-2 Capital Athletic Conference victory over
St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday afternoon.
Doran (2-0) threw 6.0 solid innings, giving up
just one run on five hits while fanning eight Seahawk batters and
walking only three. Wesley (14-10, 10-6 CAC) provided more
than enough run support for Doran as the
Wolverines exploded for six runs in the third inning.
Wesley jumped out an early 2-0 lead in the first before adding
six in the third. The Seahawks (9-19, 4-12 CAC) avoided the
shutout with a run in the sixth as senior Jon Gill
(Owings Mills, Md./Park) singled to third base to score junior
Bobby Corton (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall), who
reached base after being hit by a pitch.
The Wolverines tallied their ninth and final run in the sixth as
well before St. Mary's scored its second in the
seventh. Senior Justin Rabon's
(Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) sac fly to centerfield allowed
junior Matt Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) to
come home after leading off with a triple to right center.
Baden paced the Seahawk offense with a 3-for-5
effort at the plate while Gill finished the
afternoon with a pair of hits.
Junior RHP Barrett Enix (Suffolk,
Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) was saddled with the loss after
allowing seven runs on six hits in 2.1 innings of work.
The Seahawks will wrap up the three-game series with Wesley this
Saturday, April 10 at Hawk's Nest with a seven-inning
doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1:00 pm. Prior
to the start of Saturday's doubleheader, the Seahawks'
six seniors will be recognized for their contributions to the
baseball program.
