Seahawks, Greensboro Play to 1-1 Draw

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – It was a low-scoring afternoon on the first day of the Seahawk Men's Soccer Classic as only three goals were scored in two matches.  Host St. Mary's College of Maryland opened up tournament action with a 1-1 draw with Greensboro College.

In today's other match, No. 20 Salisbury University (4-0-1) recorded a 1-0 triumph over Methodist University (2-2).  Tomorrow, action will wrap up as St. Mary's (0-3-1) faces Methodist at noon and Salisbury takes on Greensboro at 2:30 pm.

Greensboro (1-2-1), a member of the USA South Athletic Conference, got on the scoreboard first at 36:17 as junior midfielder Joe Peluso (Ashburn, Va./Notre Dame Academy) flicked the ball over senior goalie Paul Spranklin's (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) head after receiving a pass from junior defender Chris Davis (Lakenheath, England/Lakenheath).

St. Mary's evened up the score in the second half at 51:52 when junior forward Mark Jaskolski (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) nailed a right-footed kick into the top left corner.

The two squads played through a pair of 10-minute overtime periods with the Seahawks posting a 6-2 shot advantage in those 20 minutes but first-year goalie Woody Wilder (Wytheville, Va./George Wythe) came up with three quality saves.

St. Mary's outshot the Pride, 32-13, while holding a 10-3 margin in corner kicks.
