Colonna (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) notched her first
goal of the season in defeat as the St. Mary's College of Maryland
women's soccer team suffered a 4-1 setback at the hands of No. 7
Johns Hopkins University in non-conference action Wednesday
afternoon.
First-year Christina Convey (Roslyn Harbor,
N.Y./North Shore) paced the Johns Hopkins offense with two goals
and an assist.
The Blue Jays (7-1) got on the scoreboard first when
Convey put back a loose ball just inside the far
post at 24:22. Nearly 20 minutes later,
Colonna evened the score as she beat her defender
and then sent in a high chip over sophomore goalie Meredith
Maguire (Northport, N.Y./Northport).
JHU headed into halftime with a 2-1 margin when
Convey sent a cross to the left side to first-year
midfielder Kylie Fuller (Bradford Woods, Pa./North
Allegheny) who then fired in a strike that hit off the far post at
43:16.
Hopkins netted a two-goal cushion at 60:03 as junior midfielder
Erica Suter (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) headed
in a cross from the right side by senior midfielder Erin
Stafford (Doylestown, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie). The
Blue Jays sealed the win with their final goal at 67:49 when
Convey picked up her second of the day, this time
one-timing a cross by first-year forward Pamela
Vranis (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill).
Johns Hopkins controlled the game with a 22-8 shot advantage
while just edging the Seahawks (1-3-1) with a 6-4 margin in corner
kicks.
Maguire finished the afternoon with three saves
as she improved to 4-0 on the season.

(Parkton, Md./Hereford) registered two stops in 72:52 minutes of
play while fellow classmate Allison
Griffin (Dayton, Md./River Hill) had a save in 11:42
minutes and first-year Shelby Perkins
(Forest Hill, Md./Notre Dame Prep) finished out the contest.
The Seahawks will return to action this Saturday, September 25
when they welcome Salisbury University to Seahawk Stadium for a
Capital Athletic Conference match-up at 1:00 pm.
