Salisbury, Md. – The St.
Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team finished up
competition at the 2010 Elmer Lord Classic hosted by Salisbury
University with a 2-0 loss to SUNY Geneseo Sunday afternoon.
St. Mary's (0-3) will not take the pitch again until Saturday,
September 11 for the first day of the two-day Seahawk Soccer
Classic that features No. 20 Salisbury, Greensboro College and
Methodist College. SMCM will square off against Greensboro at
1:30 followed by the Salisbury-Methodist match-up. The
Seahawks hope that home field advantage will help them secure their
first win of the season.
The Seahawk defense in the second half as the defensive unit
hunkered down Geneseo scoreless for the final 45 minutes following
a 2-0 halftime advantage by the Knights. Scoring unassisted
goals for Geneseo were midfielders Matt Solimano
(Webster, N.Y./Thomas) at 12:03 and Craig
Schackner (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) at
24:36.
Geneseo (1-1-1), a member of the State University of New York
Athletic Conference, finished with a 23-10 shot margin and an 8-2
corner kick advantage.
Seahawk defenders, Kevin Seeger
(Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) and J.T. Bowers
(Columbia, Md./River Hill), notched the team's only two shots on
goal while senior Paul
Spranklin (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) had three
saves.
