Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. – Neither St. Mary's College of Maryland nor the University of Mary Washington could find the back of the net in 110 minutes of Capital Athletic Conference women's soccer action on a soggy Wednesday afternoon.
Before the contest got underway today, senior Bridget McGovern (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip Regional) was recognized for her years of service to the Seahawk women's soccer program. The Seahawks have amassed a four-year record of 29-25-8, including a conference mark of 17-9-4. McGovern helped St. Mary's capture the league crown and the program's first-ever NCAA tournament berth in 2008 as well as the program's first-ever national ranking.
It wasn't for a lack of trying as the two teams combined to take 39 shots with St. Mary's (5-4-1, 2-3-1 CAC) holding the advantage at 23 shots taken. This is the fifth tied contest between the two teams in their last nine meetings.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) made six saves for the Seahawks while defensive backs cleared one off the line. For Mary Washington, senior Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) notched a dozen stops.
St. Mary's edged the Eagles (7-3-2, 2-2-1 CAC) in corner kicks, 10-9.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, October 15 when St. Mary's travels to Middletown, Connecticut to take on Wesleyan University in non-conference action at 12:00 pm.
