Frostburg, Md. – The sixth-seeded St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team is headed to the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament semifinals for the second consecutive season after eliminating No. 3 seed Frostburg State University, 7-6, on penalty kicks on a cold, blustery Sunday evening.

St. Mary's and Frostburg State each selected five shooters for the first round of penalty kicks.  The first round ended in a 3-3 deadlock to force a second round of penalty kicks.  The two teams selected five new kickers and proceeded with the second round.

Both squads connected on their first three shots of the second round before Bobcat senior midfielder Doria Gedridge (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) missed hers as FSU's fourth shooter.  St. Mary's fourth shooter was first-year midfielder Alex Jones (Rockville, Md./Magruder) and Jones buried her shot to help the Seahawks advance to the semifinals.

St. Mary's (5-6-3) will now face defending CAC champion, second-seeded Stevenson University, on Wednesday, November 2 in Owings Mills.  Stevenson (12-4-3) posted a 3-0 win over the Seahawks during the regular-season on October 5.

Today's CAC first round contest was decided by a penalty kick shootout following 110 minutes (90 minutes of regulation plus two, 10-minute extra periods) of scoreless soccer.  During those 110 minutes of action, the two teams combined for 38 shots and seven corner kicks.

Frostburg State (14-2-2) fired 25 shots and earned five corner kicks but found it difficult to get one past sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) who finished the game with nine saves.  The Bobcats held St. Mary's without a shot in the first extra period while taking five but Wirtz denied the three FSU shots that were on target.
