Allentown, Pa. – Despite outshooting Muhlenberg College, 40-30, the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team fell short to the Muhlenberg Mules by a 9-5 count in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

Muhlenberg (2-3) scored 16 seconds into the start of the game before senior midfielder Will Bell (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) evened up the score at 12:27 with an unassisted tally.  The Mules broke the tie two minutes later as junior midfielder Clint Watkins (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) found the back of the net.

The Mules stretched their lead to 4-1 by scoring the first two goals of the second period before Bell struck again for St. Mary's at 7:11.  A man-up goal by senior attacker Brent Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) at 3:14 gave the hosts a 5-2 lead at intermission.

Senior attacker Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) cut the lead to two with an unassisted goal at 13:04 of the third quarter before Muhlenberg scored the next two to head into the fourth stanza with a 7-3 margin.

The teams alternated the four goals scored in the final period with senior midfielder Chris Morihlatko (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) notching the two Seahawk goals.

Morihlatko and Bell paced the Seahawks on offense with two goals each while Rosson added a goal and an assist.

St. Mary's edged the Mules in ground balls, 21-19, while going 8-of-18 on face-offs.  The Seahawks struggled with extra-man opportunities on the day, tallying no goals in five attempts.  St. Mary's defense killed two of the Mules' three EMOs while junior captain Peter Windsor (Towson, Md./St. Paul's) had game-bests of five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

In goal, Seahawk junior Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) registered nine saves, including six in the second half, and scooped up three ground balls in the loss.

St. Mary's returns to action next Wednesday, March 16 when the Seahawks square off against No. 12 Denison University in non-conference action at 12:00 pm.  The game will be played on neutral ground at the Severn School in Severna Park, Maryland.
