St. Mary's Baseball Completes Sweep of York (PA)

York, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team outscored host York College of Pennsylvania, 10-2, in today's Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader to achieve the three-game sweep of the Spartans Saturday afternoon.  The Seahawks started with a 5-2 victory before posting a 5-0 shutout in the nightcap.

Nine different Seahawk batters connected on hits with senior second baseman Matt Baden (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) leading the team at the plate for the day with a 3-for-8 effort, including two doubles.  Juniors Eric Gronbeck (Owings, Md./Northern) and Keith Johnson (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) and sophomore shortstop Corey Napier (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) all recorded two RBI each.

Between the two games, St. Mary's (13-9, 6-6 CAC) made just one error in 64 chances while racking up 11 hits with two extra-base hits.

Junior RHP Michael Victory (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) picked up his second win of the season in the first game as Victory (2-3) gave up two runs (one earned) while scattering seven hits and fanning four Spartan batters.  Senior RHP Mikel Iraola (Kensington, Md./DeMatha) recorded his third save of the season by throwing a two-inning no-hitter with two strikeouts.

St. Mary's jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the third inning before the Spartans tied the game up with a run of their own in the fourth.  The Seahawks claimed a 3-1 advantage in the fifth after scoring two runs on four hits before York (4-11, 3-7 CAC) closed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth.  St. Mary's sealed the win with two more scores in the sixth as the Seahawks picked up the runs on one hit and an error.

Senior RHP Barrett Enix (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) notched the win in the nightcap as Enix (2-1) hurled 5.2 innings and allowed five hits while striking out three.  Sophomore LHP Wick Eisenberg (Towson, Md./Friends) registered his third save of the season as Eisenberg threw 1.1 innings of relief, giving up just one hit and collecting a strikeout.

St. Mary's tallied a 1-0 lead in the first before having back-to-back two-run innings in the sixth and seventh innings.  Baden scored two runs, drove one, and went 2-for-4 at the plate while Johnson was 1-for-2 with two RBI.

St. Mary's will return to action next Tuesday, March 22 when the Seahawks welcome Washington (Md.) College to the Hawk's Nest for a non-conference game at 3:00 pm.
