Fredericksburg, Va. – A pair of three-run innings allowed the St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team (14-10, 7-6 CAC) to post a 6-1 Capital Athletic Conference victory over No. 22 University of Mary Washington Friday afternoon.

Senior leftfielder Joey Kavanagh (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) went 3-for-5 while junior third baseman Keith Johnson (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) drove in two runs.

Sophomore RHP Devon Jerrard (Hunt Valley, Md./Boys' Latin) scattered five hits in 8.0 innings to improve to 4-1 on the season, including a 3-1 mark against conference opponents.  After Mary Washington scored in the fourth, Jerrard did not allow an Eagle base runner past first base in three of the next four innings.

Sophomore catcher Stefano Muscatelli (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) sparked the Seahawks to a three-run third inning with a lead-off home run, the first of his career.  An error by senior starter Parker Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) loaded the bases and then sophomore shortstop Corey Napier (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) drew a walk to score senior center fielder Bobby Corton (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall) for a 2-0 lead.  Corton had also picked up a bases-on-balls as well.

Johnson then batted in his first run of the day with an infield single to bring home senior second baseman Matt Baden (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) who reached base with a bunt single to put the Seahawks ahead, 3-0.  Junior Matt Abramson (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga), who relieved Talbert after Corton scored, notched three straight strikeouts to end the inning without further damage.

Mary Washington (15-6, 5-5 CAC) cut the lead to 3-1 in the fourth as the Eagles connected on two hits to get runners on second and third, allowing second baseman Eric Rehbein (Alexandria, Va./Gonzaga) to score off senior centerfielder Jackson Clement's (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) ground out to Napier.

The Seahawks added three runs in the ninth as sophomore right fielder Mike Schmidt (Burtonsville, Md./Blake) singled to left field to score Baden while Schmidt crossed home plate on Johnson's ground out to the shortstop for a 5-1 advantage.  Kavanagh then singled to centerfield to bring home Napier for the 6-1 final.

St. Mary's will see the Eagles tomorrow when Mary Washington comes to the Hawk's Nest for a doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
