Frederick, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team dominated Hood College Thursday afternoon, posting a 16-3 victory over the host Blazers and clinching the fifth seed in the upcoming 2011 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.

The first round of the CAC Tournament will be Sunday, April 17 at 2:00 pm and the Seahawks (5-8, 4-4 CAC) will travel to York College of Pennsylvania (10-5, 5-3 CAC), who claimed the fourth seed after dropping a 17-5 decision to University of Mary Washington this afternoon.

Senior attackman Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) commanded the Seahawk offense with game-bests of four goals and two assists while junior attackman J.P. Lennon (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) continued his multiple-goal streak with three points on two goals and an assist.  Sophomore attackman Patrick Mull (Fallston, Md./Fallston) also registered three points with three assists.

The St. Mary's defensive unit restrained Hood (7-7, 3-5 CAC) to just 16 shots for the game, including a mere three in the first half, while the Blazers committed 31 turnovers, 19 of which were forced by the Seahawks.  Junior defenseman Eric Heisner (Collegeville, Pa./La Salle College) and sophomore LSM Dalton Yohn (Taylorsville, Md./South Carroll) led the way with three caused turnovers each.

SMCM struck first as first-year midfielder Gordy Long (Monkton, Md./St. Paul's School) found the back of the net at 13:22 before Hood's senior attackman Dominique Shorter (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) evened up the game over two minutes later.  The Seahawks then scored three straight as Lennon tallied a goal and an assist in the run to give his team a 4-1 lead after one.

It was all St. Mary's in the second period as the visitors rattled off six unanswered goals to stretch their run to 10-0 for an 11-1 halftime advantage.  Rosson and senior attackman Chris Becraft (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) each notched two goals in the second quarter.

The Seahawks posted identical 3-1 runs in the third and fourth stanzas for the 16-3 final as St. Mary's tallied the first three goals to start each period.

St. Mary's finished with 42 shots while Heisner and sophomore midfielder Albert Mitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass./Saint John's) each scooped up a team-best six ground balls.

In goal, junior Stu Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's) made seven saves, gave up two goals and had three ground balls in 55 minutes while sophomore Ben Wheeler (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) finished out the game.
