Frostburg State Spoils CAC Opener for Seahawk Men's Soccer

Frostburg, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team had hoped to get back in the win column Saturday afternoon and open up Capital Athletic Conference action on the right track but Frostburg State University had other ideas, handing the Seahawks a 3-1 setback.

Despite holding a 7-3 margin in corner kicks, the loss is the second straight for St. Mary's (4-2, 0-1 CAC), who is ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Sophomore midfielder Damian Ramos (Glen Burnie, Md./UDC) started the scoring for Frostburg (4-0-1, 1-0 CAC), giving the Bobcats a 1-0 halftime lead as Ramos completed a feed from junior forward Shawn Baker (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) in the 32nd minute.

The Bobcat lead increased to 2-0 in the 56th minute as junior midfielder Scott Wasser (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) picked up an unassisted goal.  Senior midfielder Aaron Lewis (Fulton, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) notched his first collegiate goal to pull St. Mary's to within 2-1 in the 86th minute.

Frostburg sealed the win with a last minute goal as junior midfielder Ryan Russell (Waldorf, Md./CSM) found the back of the net with 22 seconds remaining in the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Austin Brown (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's) made two saves in the loss as Frostburg edged the Seahawks, 14-12, in shots.

St. Mary's will return to action on Wednesday, September 21 as the Seahawks welcome Richard Stockton College (5-2) to Seahawk Stadium for non-conference action at 4:00 pm.
