Fayetteville, N.C. – First-year midfielder Tommy Krug (Columbia, Md./River Hill) helped the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team avoid a shutout Wednesday afternoon with his second half goal as the Seahawks dropped a 3-1 non-conference decision to Methodist University.
Methodist (5-1-2) scored two minutes apart in the 34th and 36th minutes to claim a 2-0 halftime lead. The Monarch defense held St. Mary's (5-4) to just two first-half shots.
The Seahawks played a much closer second stanza, edging Methodist 5-4 in shots. Krug cut the lead to 2-1 in the 67th minute with his second goal of the season as he capitalized on a Monarch defensive misclear. Methodist scored again in the 90th minute for the 3-1 final.
Sophomore goalkeeper Austin Brown (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's) made seven stops on 19 shots taken by the hosts.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, October 1 as St. Mary's welcomes Stevenson University (4-5-1) to Seahawk Stadium for Capital Athletic Conference action at 4:00 pm. The men's soccer game is the last in Saturday's tripleheader for the Hawktoberfest at Family Weekend festivities.
