Salisbury, Md. – Sophomore goalkeeper Austin Brown (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's) recorded his first career shutout Sunday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team finished undefeated at Salisbury University's Elmer Lord Classic with a 4-0 blanking of Penn State Altoona.
Brown, who only saw 45 minutes of action as a rookie, has shined in the starting role thus far for the Seahawks (2-0). He has given up just one goal in 180 minutes and today made four saves to preserve his first collegiate shutout.
St. Mary's owned a 1-0 halftime lead behind senior forward Misha Simon's (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) first goal of the season at 37:07. First-year midfielder Stephen Hauschild (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) assisted on the play.
Senior forward Mark Jaskolski (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) gave the Seahawks a 2-0 advantage in the second half with an unassisted goal at 51:34. Just three minutes later, it became a 3-0 cushion as first-year midfielder Evan Camm (Severna Park, Md./Broadneck) found the back of the net for his first goal collegiate goal off an assist by senior midfielder Matt Grady (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson).
First-year forward Rickie Kalama (Bel Air, Md./Aberdeen) put the finishing touches on the Seahawk win as senior forward Ted Scharfenberg (Holbrook, Md./St. John the Baptist) fed Kalama the ball just a second before the final horn went off.
St. Mary's outshot the Lions (0-2), 15-10, and posted a 4-2 margin in corner kicks.
