Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. – Greensboro College used a goal in each half to post a 2-0 win over the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
First-year forward Morgan Stevenson (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) finished the match with a goal and an assist in leading the Greensboro Pride (7-3-2) to the win.
The Pride struck with their first goal at 36:10 when first-year defender Liam Buckley (Oldham, England/North Chadderton Secondary) sent a high chip over sophomore goalkeeper Nate Ramsland (Catonsville, Md./Mount Saint Joseph). Buckley's resulted from a short pass inside the penalty box from Stevenson.
Stevenson then found the back of the net himself in the second half as he kicked in first-year midfielder Drew Clukey's (Saint Augustine, Fla./Saint Augustine) cross from the far post to the near post at 65:53.
St. Mary's (4-9-0) outshot the Pride, 8-6, in the second stanza but junior goalkeeper Manbi Nyepon (Liberia, West Africa) came up with four second-half saves to keep the Seahawks off the scoreboard.
Greensboro notched a 15-10 edge in shots as well as a 4-1 margin in corner kicks.
Ramsland registered three saves while Nyepon finished four stops in recording his fifth shutout of the season.
St. Mary's will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 13 when the Seahawks welcome No. 14 York College of Pennsylvania to Seahawk Stadium for Capital Athletic Conference action at 2:00 pm. Prior to the start of Saturday's match, St. Mary's four seniors – Lukas Iraola, Ryan Plaisance, Andrew Ragusa and Frank VanGessel – will be recognized for their service to the Seahawk men's soccer program.
