Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. - First-year Zach Nadolny (Sparks, Md./Bel Air) powered a three-run homer over the left field fence in the fourth inning of a tie game to lead St. Mary's College to a 4-3 victory over York College. St. Mary's (9-4, 4-2 CAC) with the win took the three-game conference series from the Spartans, 2-1.
With the game tied at one run apiece heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, St. Mary's went to work. Senior Keith Johnson (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) led off this inning with a single to the left side of the infield, followed by a double down the left field line off the bat of sophomore Alex Lenovitz (Glyndon, Md./Calvert Hall College), for runners on second and third and no outs. Nadolny stepped up to the plate looking for a pitch he could drive and bring home the runners aboard, and he got just that, getting a hold of a waist high pitch and knocked it out of the park to put the Seahawks ahead 4-1 through four innings.
York (4-6, 1-2 CAC) would look to chip away at the St. Mary's lead scoring one run in the fifth and another in the sixth to pull within a run of the lead at 4-3. However, solid pitching for the Seahawks held off any chance of a Spartan rally as St. Mary's held on for the one run victory.
Senior Devon Jerrard (Hunt Valley, Md./The Boys' Latin School of Maryland) went six innings earning the win, giving up three runs, two earned, on eight hits. Jerrard is now 2-2 on the season. Sophomore Sam Coe (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) came in to relieve Jerrard in the seventh, pitching a scoreless final three innings to earn his first save of the season. Coe struck out four of the nine hitters he faced, while only surrendering two hits.
Today's win now puts St. Mary's head coach Lew Jenkins at 299 career victories. The Seahawks will look to earn career victory number 300 when they return to the Hawks Nest Tuesday March 13 when they take on Albertus Magnus for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for noon.
