Dover, Del. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team started off Wednesday with a 9-0 Capital Athletic Conference shutout of the host Wesley College Wolverines before heading a few miles down the road to take on NCAA Division I Delaware State University, dropping a 7-1 decision to the DSU Hornets.
St. Mary's (11-4, 3-0 CAC) rolled through its match with Wesley (0-5, 0-4 CAC), losing only eight sets en route to capturing all six singles matches. The Seahawks proceeded to make quick work of doubles action, suffering setbacks in just three of 27 sets played between all three matches. The Seahawks lone point against Delaware State (10-3) came at No. 6 singles as junior Shelby Mullennix (California, Md./Leonardtown) posted a 6-0, 3-6, 10-6 victory over sophomore Elisa Harrison (Bronx, New York).
St. Mary's will enjoy the Easter holiday before returning to action on Tuesday, April 10 as St. Mary's welcomes York College of Pennsylvania (4-7, 1-2 CAC) to the Somerset Tennis Complex for a league match at 3:30 pm. This match was rescheduled from its original date of March 25 because of rain.
