Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team battled the No. 6 Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays Wednesday night but succumbed to a 5-0 setback in non-conference action.
Johns Hopkins (6-1-1) owned a 3-0 halftime lead as the Blue Jays outshot St. Mary's 11-3 and earned three corner kicks in the first half. Forwards Kim LaBarge (Gambrills, Md./South River) and Jo Rambo (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) and junior midfielder Marilyn Hucek (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) all fired off shots for the Seahawks.
The Blue Jays scored two more times in the second stanza on 12 shots while the JHU defense held the Seahawks to no shots in the final 45 minutes.
Hopkins was led in the win by sophomore forward Hannah Kronick's (Westfield, N.J.) hat trick.
Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) recorded five saves in the loss while the St. Mary's backline denied any corner kicks to Hopkins in the final half. Senior keeper Meredith Maguire (Northport, N.Y.) made one stop in registering her second shutout of the season.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, September 22 as St. Mary's travels to Dover, Delaware to face Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference match at 1:00 pm.
