Box Score Dover, Del. – Senior captain Yvonne Latour (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) tallied a goal and two assists in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team to a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference road win over Wesley College Saturday night. The Seahawks improve to 4-7-3 (3-1 CAC) on the season and own a 2-0-1 record in their three-match unbeaten streak.
St. Mary's posted a 2-0 halftime advantage as sophomore Jess Konecke (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and Latour combined on both goals. Konecke got the Seahawks on the board at 18:34 as she received a pass from Latour and shot from the left side, scoring off the right post.
Konecke struck again just two minutes later, again collecting a feed from Latour and finishing for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Shots were even in the first half at seven apiece but only one was on goal for Wesley (4-8-1, 0-4 CAC) as senior goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) handled it without incident while another Wolverine shot hit the post.
The Seahawks kept the pressure on in the second stanza, edging Wesley by an 8-5 margin in shots and finally breaking through in the 82nd minute. Following a Wirtz save, Latour dribbled down the side of the field and then shot into the left corner to seal the team's second consecutive CAC win.
St. Mary's doubled up on the Wolverines in corner kicks by a 6-3 edge. Wirtz registered two saves in 81 minutes while first-year Sara Eaton (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) finished out the game as the duo recorded the team's fourth shutout win of the season.
Sophomore Samantha Brannigan (Barrington, N.J.) picked up three stops in Wesley's third straight loss.
St. Mary's hopes to continue its winning ways next Saturday, October 19th when the Seahawks travel to Arlington, Virginia to face Marymount University in another conference matchup at 1:00 pm.
