Frostburg, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team had to play from behind most of the game in dropping a 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference decision at Frostburg State University Saturday afternoon.
Frostburg State (11-3-0, 4-2-0 CAC) struck first at 16:37 of the first half. Senior defender Jason Bennett (Dunkirk, Md.) was the first to score for the Bobcats. The Seahawks (4-7-2, 1-3-0 CAC) were able to keep things close as they headed into halftime having allowed only one goal.
The Seahawks kept the deficit to one goal for a majority of the second half until junior midfielder Bryan Lentine (West Windsor, N.J.) scored at 63:37 to take a two-goal lead. Frostburg would grab two more late goals on its way to a 4-0 final. Senior forward Kunle Akinfeleve (Lanham, Md.) led all scorers with a goal and an assist on the day.
Senior captain Austin Brown (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's School) had three saves on 16 shots faced while freshman midfielder Nick Tait (Silver Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) led the Seahawks with three shots.
The Seahawks will look to rebound on Sunday, October 20 as they host conference newcomer, Penn State Harrisburg, at Seahawk Stadium. The men's soccer team is currently sitting in seventh place in the conference with four regular-season games remaining. A win on Sunday will help the Seahawks' chances of moving into the sixth and final playoff spot. Sunday's game will be played at 3:00 pm.
