Box Score Dover, Del. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team was a minute and 29 seconds away from posting a 1-1 draw in Capital Athletic Conference action at Wesley College Wednesday night but Wesley was able to sneak by the Seahawks for the 2-1 double overtime CAC win.
Junior forward Danny Ramirez (Middlesex, N.J.) deflected a Wesley throw-in towards sophomore midfielder Oluwatobi Sowande (Laurel, Md.) who blasted a shot into the left corner, giving the Wolverines their first league win of the season.
St. Mary's (3-5-2, 1-1 CAC) edged the Wolverines, 16-14 in shots while Wesley owned a 5-2 margin in corner kicks. Senior captain Austin Brown (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's School) made five saves for the Seahawks while Wesley senior Mark Mattern (Carney, Md.) picked up four stops.
Following a scoreless first half, Wesley (4-5-2, 1-1 CAC) got on the scoreboard first as Sowande collected a throw-in from first-year Will Mileski (Shoreham, N.Y.) and dribbled in towards the left post for the finish at 58:16.
Twenty minutes later, the Seahawks tied up the game on first-year midfielder Nick Tait's (Silver Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) free kick that went through the wall into the left corner.
St. Mary's hopes to get back in the win column on Saturday, October 5th when the Seahawks welcome conference newcomer, Southern Virginia University, to Seahawk Stadium for a match at 3:30 pm. Men's soccer will be the final game of the Hawktoberfest at Family Weekend tripleheader Saturday as field hockey kicks off the festivities at 11:30 am and women's soccer follow at 1:30 pm.
