Box Score Salisbury, Md. – Junior midfielder Rickie Kalama (Bel Air, Md./Aberdeen) netted the game-winning goal with four seconds left in the second extra period to lift the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team to a 1-0 double overtime season-opening win over Hunter College Friday evening.
The Seahawks (1-0) were awarded a corner kick with 25 seconds remaining the second OT when senior defender Pierre Zibi's (Silver Spring, Md./DeMatha Catholic) shot was saved out of bounds by sophomore goalkeeper Emmanuel Aprilakis (Richmond Hill, N.Y.). Kalama's corner kick then curled in for the golden goal at 109:56.
St. Mary's will face Manhattanville College (0-1) tomorrow at 1:30 pm in the final day of the Elmer Lord Classic hosted by Salisbury University. Manhattanville dropped a 1-0 double overtime decision to the hosts earlier in the day.
St. Mary's controlled the tempo of play from start to finish, firing 27 shots to Hunter's one. The Seahawks constant offensive pressure forced 18 corner kicks while Hunter (0-1) managed none.
Aprilakis picked up seven saves in the loss while junior Nate Ramsland (Catonsville, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) needed no stops for St. Mary's season-opening win.
