Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team put an end to their scoreless streak Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks (2-4-1) played Goucher College to a 1-1 draw in non-conference action.
St. Mary's ended a 223:43-minute scoreless streak as junior forward Matt Braun (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) ripped a shot top shelf to the right of first-year Nick Stolarz (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson), giving the Seahawks a 1-0 lead at 36:13.
Shots were even in the first half at five apiece but the Gophers (5-3-1) were unable to put one past senior captain Austin Brown (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's School) as Brown made three stops in the first 45 minutes.
The Seahawks had an opportunity in the 57th minute to stake a 2-0 advantage but junior midfielder Rickie Kalama's (Bel Air, Md./Aberdeen) bounced off the post. Goucher put the pressure on in the second stanza, posting an 8-4 shot advantage and finally breaking through in the 77th minute as junior defender Brandon Weiner (Derwood, Md./Magruder) headed in first-year forward Kevin Tonkovich's (Lacey, N.J./Lacey Township) free kick.
During the 20 minutes of overtime, the Gophers outshot St. Mary's, 5-3, but Brown came up with two stops while one of Braun's shots went off the crossbar in the second extra period.
Brown finished with a season-best nine saves as he faced 18 shots (10 on goal) while Stolarz made four stops on 12 shots faced. Goucher tallied an 11-5 corner kick advantage as well as an 18-12 shot margin.
St. Mary's will look for its third win of the season on Tuesday, September 24th when the Seahawks welcome Hampden-Sydney College to Seahawk Stadium for a non-conference game at 4:00 pm.
