Box Score Frostburg, Md. – First-year forward Emmanuel Oppong's (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) fifth goal of the season came at a great time, lifting the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team to the win in the first round of the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. The sixth-seeded Seahawks posted a 1-0 triumph over third-seeded Frostburg State University.
Today's win propels St. Mary's (10-9) to a semifinal matchup at No. 2 seed Penn State Harrisburg next Wednesday, November 5th at 5:00 p.m. This is the Seahawks' first trip to the conference tournament semifinals since 2006. St. Mary's is enjoying its first 10-win season since the Seahawks went 12-7-1 in 2005.
Oppong broke the scoreless draw at 38:54 as he shot a loose ball inside the penalty box from six yards out.
St. Mary's controlled the tempo all game long, tallying a 16-9 shot advantage, including a 9-4 margin in the second half. The Seahawks also owned a 3-2 edge in corner kicks, earning all three in the second stanza.
First-year goalkeeper Zack Haussler (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) finished the game with five saves for his fifth shutout of the season while sophomore Hassan Mostafa (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) made five stops for Frostburg State (10-6-3).
