Seahawk Baseball Rebounds with Win over Washington College

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – Senior captain Alex Lenovitz (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and first-year 2B Zach Rowe (Annapolis, Md./Calvert Hall) each picked up four hits to lead the St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team to a 9-5 non-conference win over Washington College Sunday afternoon.

Rowe and Lenovitz each went 4-for-5 at the plate from the lead-off and No. 3 spot, respectively, in the lineup. Rowe added an RBI and a run while Lenovitz connected on a pair of doubles, drove in two runs, and scored twice. Junior DH Brandon Eady (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) also brought home two runs as he was 1-for-4 on the day.

First-year LHP Jimmy Robey (Kensington, Md./Gonzaga College [D.C.]) earned his first career win as Robey (1-1) threw 5.0 scoreless innings of relief, scattering five hits and striking out a season-best two. First-year RHP Reid D'Antuono (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) started on the mound, working 4.0 innings and fanning a season-high four batters before being relieved by Robey.

The Seahawks (18-17) will now turn their focus to the double-elimination 2014 Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, April 15th with first round action. As the sixth seed, St. Mary's will travel to top-seeded York College of Pennsylvania on Tuesday for a single game at 3:30 p.m. York will then host championship weekend on April 18-20.

St. Mary's jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Lenovitz doubled to left center to score junior LF Brad Dioguardo (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin), who reached on a fielder's choice. Lenovitz then scored on a Shoreman error before Eady came home during a rundown play that ended the inning as senior RF Kenny Beyer (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) was finally tagged out at second.

Washington (12-15) answered right back in the top of the second, scoring three of its own after loading the bases with two outs. The Shoremen came home on a wild pitch as well as having a run walked in and another score because of a hit batter.

The Shoremen then added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to claim their first lead of the game, a 5-3 advantage. Their two-run lead stood until the sixth when St. Mary's put up five runs on four hits and one error, regaining an 8-5 lead. Lenovitz notched his second RBI double to contribute offensively in the sixth while Eady cracked a two RBI single to left field.

The Seahawks tallied a run in the eighth for good measure off of junior 1B Jared Eaker's (Mechanicsville, Md./Leonardtown) RBI single to right field, scoring Dioguardo who led off the inning with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a Lenovitz single.

Senior RF Pat Kinsella (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) paced the Shoremen at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort while junior RHP Michael Long (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) suffered the loss after hurling 0.1 innings of relief, giving up five runs on three hits and two walks.
