Seahawk Men's Soccer Dominates in First Win of the Season

Box Score

Salisbury, Md. – First-year forward Emmanuel Oppong's (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) first career hat trick paced the offensive charge for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team as the Seahawks posted a convincing 12-0 win over Patrick Henry College on the final day of the annual Elmer Lord Memorial Classic hosted by Salisbury University.

The Seahawks' 12 goals on Saturday afternoon were just one shy of tying the school record for most goals in a game. The program has twice scored 13 goals – first in 2001 versus Chowan College and again in 2002 against Albright College.

St. Mary's (1-1) owned a 4-0 halftime advantage as senior captain Matt Braun (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) notched the game's first two goals at 1:29 and 9:28. Sophomore forward Zach Fontenot (Middletown, Md./Middletown) gave the team a 3-0 lead at 24:48 off an assist from sophomore midfielder Yonah Zeitz (Potomac, Md./Edmund Burke).

First-year forward Alessandro Burlew (Mt. Airy, Md./Good Counsel) sent the Seahawks into intermission with the four-goal lead with first career goal at 40:45, adding to his assist on Braun's second tally.

The Seahawks doubled their scoring in the second half as Oppong exploded for three goals in his collegiate debut. Joining Oppong with a multiple-point effort in the second stanza was fellow classmate Adam Kratz (Owings, Md./Northern) and sophomore midfielder Kyle Reichard (Crofton, Md./South River). Kratz netted back-to-back goals while Reichard added a goal and two assists.

The Seahawks finished with a 43-2 shot advantage while holding a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

Junior Kyle Snyder made 15 saves for Patrick Henry (0-2) in 67 minutes of action, including nine in the first half.

Senior captain Nate Ramsland (Catonsville, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and first-years Zack Haussler (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) and Ben Meyers (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) all took turns in goal with Ramsland starting and playing the entire first half. Ramsland picked up the Seahawks' only save.

St. Mary's will look to stay in the win column on Wednesday, September 3rd when the Seahawks travel to Chestertown to take on Washington College in non-conference action at 4:00 p.m.
