Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team saw their four-match win streak come to an end Saturday afternoon as a second-half goal gave the visiting McDaniel College Green Terror a 1-0 non-conference win over the Seahawks.
This was the first meeting between the two squads since 1998 when then Western Maryland College (as McDaniel was formerly known) posted a 3-2 win right here in Seahawk Stadium. The Green Terror now owns a 10-5 record over St. Mary's.
McDaniel (4-1) controlled the tempo in the first half with a 7-3 advantage in shots and a 1-0 margin in corner kicks but only two of their shots were on target and first-year goalkeeper Zack Haussler (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) turned them away.
First-year forward Emmanuel Kanneh (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) took the Seahawks' only on-target shot of the half but first-year Nick Over (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) handled it to keep the home team off the scoreboard.
In the second half, St. Mary's (4-2) came out firing as first-year forward Alessandro Burlew (Mt. Airy, Md./Good Counsel) tested Over early on but Over was up to the challenge.
Senior forward Shane McCracken (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) finally broke the scoreless draw with his fifth tally of the season at 53:58. First-year midfielder Raul Escobar (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) assisted on the play as his cross from the right led to the game's lone goal. McCracken almost gave McDaniel a two-goal cushion at 70:12 but his shot hit off the post.
The Seahawks were awarded their only corner kick of the contest at 76:59 but could not generate any offense.
Haussler finished with two saves as he recorded his first loss of the season while Over picked up two stops for the Green Terror's second straight win.
St. Mary's continues its home-stand on Tuesday, September 16th when The Catholic University of America (1-3) comes to Seahawk Stadium for a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.
