Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. – Senior captain Matt Braun (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) tallied his third of the season but the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team lost their third in a row, dropping a 3-1 decision to Randolph-Macon College Tuesday afternoon.
Today's loss snaps St. Mary's four-game win streak against the Yellow Jackets. Randolph-Macon's last win was a 4-1 win in 1991. The Seahawks still hold the advantage in the series with a 4-2 record.
St. Mary's (4-4) got past the Yellow Jacket defense just 36 seconds into the game as sophomore midfielder Yonah Zeitz (Potomac, Md./Edmund Burke School) chipped in a pass into the penalty box where Braun ran onto it for the finish.
Sophomore forward Matt Houle (Charleston, S.C./Academic Magnet) notched the game-tying goal for Randolph-Macon at 25:06 after receiving a pass from first-year midfielder Logan McHugh (Churchville, Md.).
The Yellow Jackets (2-5) carried a 2-1 lead into halftime as first-year forward Tyler Slayton (Mechanicsville, Va.) found the back of the net at 31:38 for his first of two on the day.
Slayton struck again late in the second half with his second unassisted goal of the afternoon at 73:26, sealing the win for Randolph-Macon and snapping the team's four-game skid.
Randolph-Macon posted a 16-9 shot advantage while earning all three of the game's corner kicks in the first half.
First-year goalkeeper Zack Haussler (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) tallied five saves for the Seahawks while sophomore C.J. Montalbano (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) came up with three stops.
St. Mary's will open up Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 27th as the Seahawks travel to Middletown, Pennsylvania to take on Penn State Harrisburg (6-1) at 12:00 p.m.
