Frostburg, Md. – Senior captain Lexy McCarty (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) netted the lone goal for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team Saturday evening as the Seahawks dropped a 2-1 decision at Frostburg State University in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both sides.

Following a scoreless first half, the Seahawk offense was the first to break through in the 65th minute. McCarty tallied her team-leading third goal of the season at 64:09 after receiving a pass from senior captain Liz Mosher (Bethesda, Md./Madeira).

Frostburg State (7-1-2, 1-0 CAC) responded with a goal of its own over seven minutes later as junior midfielder Erin Worthman (Bowie, Md./Seton) fed first-year midfielder Kourtney McLain (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) for the game-tying goal at 71:25.

Worthman had a hand in the eventual game-winning goal as she sent in a pass to first-year midfielder Melanie Bell (Sykesville, Md./Century) for the finish at 80:51. The Bobcats now hold a 9-3-2 advantage in the series history following tonight's win, including a 4-1 mark in conference play since joining the league in 2010.

St. Mary's (3-4-2, 0-1 CAC) knocked on the door twice late in the game as Mosher tested senior goalkeeper Katie Smith (Reisterstown, Md./Maryvale Prep) with back-to-back shots at 87:37 and 89:59. Smith was able to deny the attempts and preserve FSU's conference-opening win.

The Bobcats posted an 18-8 shot advantage as well as a 7-5 edge in corner kicks, including a 5-0 margin in the second half.

First-year Sydney Larkin (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) registered nine saves in the loss while Smith finished with six stops in helping FSU extend its unbeaten streak to four games.

The Seahawks continue with conference play on Wednesday, October 1st as St. Mary's travels to Fredericksburg, Virginia to take on University of Mary Washington (7-2-1, 1-0 CAC) at 4:00 p.m.
