Box Score Dover, Del. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team scored a goal in each half to secure another Capital Athletic Conference win on Wednesday evening on the road against the Wesley College Wolverines, who fell 2-0 to St. Mary's.
The Seahawks (8-6-0, 6-1-0 CAC) owned a 1-0 halftime lead as senior forward Jess Konecke (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) received a pass from junior midfielder Claire Kostelnik (Los Angeles, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart) and shot it in between first-year goalkeeper Antonia Pote (Woodbury Heights, N.J./Gateway) and the post for the Seahawks' first goal of the game at 43:32.
St. Mary's had a total of 16 shots in the first half to Wesley's one and Pote turned away six.
Kostelnik would show her fierce teamwork in the 63rd minute when she found senior forward Gillian Sawyer (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) on a counterattack where Sawyer finished a strike past Pote for the final Seahawk goal of the game.
The Seahawks tallied a total of 31 shots and 10 corner kicks for the game. The St. Mary's defense was tough to work through and Wesley (5-8-2, 2-5-0 CAC) was only able to muster seven shots and a pair of corner kicks in the match.
St. Mary's will look to continue its momentum on the road this Saturday, October 24 at Marymount (Va.) University at 1:00 p.m.
