Seahawk Men's Swimming Wins Twice at York (Pa.)

York, Pa. – St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swimming improved to 4-2 on the season with two victories at the quad meet hosted by York College of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks (4-2) tallied a pair of 96-91 decisions over York (1-4) and Saint Vincent College (3-2) while falling 112-75 to No. 38 Ursinus College (3-1).

The only gold medal for the Seahawks came in the 200 freestyle as junior Matt Walchuck (Middletown, Md./Middletown) touched the wall first in 1:46.77.

Senior captain Grant Burgess (Fallston, Md./Fallston) notched a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 10:21.01 while sophomore Max Madden (Cape St. Clair, Md./Broadneck) finished sixth in 10:46.64. Sophomore Kieran Broder (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep) took second in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.40 while sophomore Lucas Delgado (Bowie, Md./Gonzaga College) came in eighth in 2:12.04.

Three Seahawks scored in the 200 butterfly as Broder nabbed another silver medal in 2:01.19 while senior Kian Karimi (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) placed sixth (2:06.89) and Delgado picked up an eighth-place finish (2:13.82).

Walchuck earned a silver medal in the 500 freestyle with time of 4:59.20 while Burgess finished fourth (5:03.29). The foursome of Walchuck, first-year Colin Cassady (Phoenix, Md./Calvert Hall), junior Andrew Braker (Olney, Md./Sherwood), and senior captain Michael Speer (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) finished second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:17.07.

Senior captain Zach Lilley (Myersville, Md./Middletown), Broder, Delgado, and Speer collected a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay in 3:45.26. Cassady added a bronze in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.54 while Broder picked up his second bronze in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.71.

In the 100 freestyle, Speer led the Seahawks with a fourth-place finish in 49.70 while Cassady finished eighth in 51.94. Lilley was the team's top scorer in the 200 backstroke with a sixth-place finish in 2:07.84.

St. Mary's will be back in action on Saturday, November 13 when the Seahawks travel to Chestertown, Maryland to face Washington College in a non-conference meet at 4:00 p.m.
