Box Score Westminster, Md. – Five different scorers helped the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team to their second straight win Wednesday afternoon. The Seahawks (3-3) posted a 5-1 road win over McDaniel College as sophomore defender Andrew Battin (Boyds, Md./Clarksburg) tallied a goal and assist.
St. Mary's dominated from the opening whistle and tallied a 2-0 halftime lead. While the offense was easily breaking through the McDaniel defense, the Green Terror continuously ran into a brick wall and only managed one shot to the Seahawks' 11 in the first half.
Junior forward Zach Fontenot (Middletown, Md./Middletown) put St. Mary's on the scoreboard first with his first tally of the season at 35:48 off an assist from Battin. Sophomore midfielder Sunny Chhatani (Lima, Peru/Indian Creek [Md.]) also notched his first of the season nearly seven minutes later at 42:04.
It became a three-goal game just over five minutes into the second half as junior forward Luke Barber (Washington, D.C./Walt Whitman) headed in junior midfielder Yonah Zeitz's (Potomac, Md./Edmund Burke) corner kick at 50:34.
McDaniel (2-2-1) avoided the shutout loss at 55:38 when first-year forward Storm Robinson (Baltimore, Md./Mount Carmel) finished off a feed from sophomore midfielder Raul Escobar (Silver Spring, Md./Blake). Battin picked up a goal for himself as he put back the rebound from sophomore goalkeeper Nick Over's (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) initial save on junior midfielder Nick Tait's (Silver Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) free kick at 67:03.
First-year forward Trestan Ondiek (Silver Spring, Md./Washington Christian) sealed the deal with one second left in the game with an unassisted score.
St. Mary's owned a 19-12 advantage in shots while the Green Terror edged the Seahawks, 8-6, in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Zack Haussler (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) finished the contest with five saves while Over recorded six stops as McDaniel saw its two-game unbeaten streak snapped.
The Seahawks return home on Tuesday, September 22 and welcome The Catholic University of America (2-4) to Seahawk Stadium for a non-conference match at 4:00 p.m.
