Box Score

Ashland, Va. – Junior forward Luke Barber (Washington, D.C./Walt Whitman) netted two goals, including the game-winner, to lift the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team to a 3-2 non-conference road victory over Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was potentially headed into overtime as the score was tied 2-2 with less than 10 minutes left in the contest. St. Mary's earned a corner kick at 81:17 as first-year goalkeeper Brian Breslin's save of a sophomore forward Alessandro Burlew (Mount Airy, Md./Good Counsel) shot went out of bounds over the end line.

Randolph-Macon (5-4) committed a foul inside the box to set up the Seahawks for a penalty kick. Barber was called to take the PK and he buried shot at 82:23 for the eventual game-winning goal. The Yellow Jackets fired off two shots over the final seven minutes but both shots went wide and St. Mary's held on for its second straight win to extend its unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1).

Corner kicks were even at three apiece for the match while St. Mary's posted a 21-16 advantage in shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Ben Meyers (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) made two saves in improving to 2-2 on the season in goal for the Seahawks while Breslin collected seven stops in R-MC's second straight home loss.

St. Mary's (5-3-1) tallied the first goal of the game at 7:29 behind Burlew's fifth goal of the season. Breslin denied a shot by junior midfielder Nick Tait (Silver Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) but Burlew put back the rebound for the 1-0 SMCM lead. Barber stretched the lead to two at 12:23 as he finished off a pass from Burlew.

Junior defender Jack Maxey (Salem, Va./Salem) closed the gap to 2-1 at 15:18 as Maxey converted a penalty kick into his first goal of the season. The two sides headed into halftime tied at 2-2 as junior midfielder Byron Eubanks (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) picked up an unassisted goal at 42:45.
