Seahawk Men's Soccer Wraps Up Action at Elmer Lord Memorial Classic

Salisbury, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team finished competition at the Elmer Lord Memorial Classic, which is hosted by Salisbury University, Sunday afternoon. After an overtime loss yesterday, the Seahawks suffered a 4-0 setback at the hands of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA).

USMMA (2-1) notched two goals in each half to rebound from yesterday's 2-1 loss to the host school. Four different Mariners found the back of the net while junior midfielder Timothy Hughes (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished the game with a goal and an assist.

The Mariners outshot St. Mary's, 26-10, in the game while posting a 6-2 margin in corner kicks.

Sophomore keeper Ben Meyers (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) collected a career-best six stops, including five saves against 18 Mariner shots and two corners in the first half. Junior Corey Maier (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan/NMMI) tallied three saves in 85:48 minutes of action before sophomore Nolan Smith (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) closed out the match.

Junior captain Nick Tait (Silver Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) led the Seahawks (1-2) with three shots while sophomore midfielder Maxwell Dwyer (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) added a pair.

St. Mary's will look to snap its two-match skid on Wednesday, September 9 when the Seahawks host Washington College in non-conference action at 4:00 p.m.
