St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team (2-3) was able to capitalize on a nice, warm Saturday afternoon to take the lead and win two games against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (0-2) with scores of  7-2 and 6-2 in the home-opener.

Three Seahawk players set the momentum for the team in hitting. Seniors Hayden Ferington (Centreville, Va./Westfield) and Connor Goodie (Rising Sun, Md./ Rising Sun), first-year outfielder Holden Marshall (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) all had two hits in the first game. St. Mary's would finish with a total of 11 hits to three by Mount Saint Mary.

Seven different Seahawks picked up one RBI each as St. Mary's recorded its first win of the season.

MSMC would be the first to score in the top of the third inning before the Seahawks responded in the fourth with two runs for a one-run lead after four innings of play. Although the Knights scored a run in the fifth inning, they would not be able to stop St. Mary's in the bottom of the sixth. The Seahawks showed great momentum and brought in five runs to break the 2-2 tie, securing the 7-2 win.

Sophomore RHP Matt Henigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) would take the win for the Seahawks as Henigan (1-0) pitched 1.0 inning of hitless relief.

The second game of the series had the same energy pushing it forward. The Seahawks capitalized early in this game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first.

Mount Saint Mary was able to obtain nine total hits for this game and scored two runs – one in the second and one in the fourth. Three players for the Knights contributed two hits each for the game while sophomore catcher Ryan Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J./ Hun School) added an RBI.

However, the Knights' effort would not be able to slow down the Seahawks who were able to extend their two-run lead to four in the bottom of the sixth. The highlight of the inning was sophomore catcher Sean Goodie's (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) first career home run.

Senior RHP Garrett Pope (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) tallied his first win of the season as Pope (1-0) pitched 5.0 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits. Ferington had another strong showing offensively, collecting two doubles and two RBI for the game.

The Seahawks will be back in action tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Hawk's Nest as they conclude their three-game series with the Mount Saint Mary Knights.
