St. Mary's Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.)

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team (3-3) won on a rainy Sunday morning to take the three-game series from Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) College.

First-year Holden Marshall (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) would have a strong showing of three hits to contribute to the Seahawks. Likewise, junior infielder Colin Thatcher (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) and junior first baseman Anthony Cangelosi (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) would get two hits. The Seahawks would conclude the game with a total of 10 hits and five RBI. Both Marshall and Cangelosi would also record two RBI and Thatcher would tally one RBI.

The Seahawks would score in the bottom of the second when Cangelosi singled to centerfield, bringing in senior catcher Connor Goodie (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun). Cangelosi would again single to centerfield in the fourth inning, bringing in Marshall for a 2-0 lead against the Knights.

The Knights' senior outfielder Matt Cahill (Ronkonokoma, N.Y./Sachem North) would take advantage while being on third base at the top of the sixth when junior catcher Vincenzo Pepe (Middletown, Md./Middletown) grounded out to the shortstop to score Cahill. The Seahawks, however, would take defensive control and made a double play to put out Pepe and junior third baseman Rob Peccerillo (Staten, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea).

The Seahawks would show great pace offensively in the sixth, recording two runs and three hits. Senior catcher Hayden Ferington (Centreville, Va./Westfield) would double to left field for his fifth double of the season.

Mount Saint Mary would score one more run in the seventh but could not hold off the Seahawks in the 5-2 loss. The Knights would conclude the game with two runs, five hits, and no errors.

Junior pitcher Jimmy Robey (Kensington, Md./Gonzaga College (D.C.)) earned the win for the Seahawks, bettering his record to 1-1.

The Seahawks will be at the Hawk's Nest on Sunday, February 27 for a non-conference doubleheader against McDaniel College at 12:00 p.m.
