Seahawk Baseball Takes on No. 11/14 Salisbury

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team (5-17, 1-8 CAC) battled through tough games against the No. 11/14 Salisbury University Sea Gulls (13-6, 7-2 CAC), falling 15-8 and 14-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

In the first game, the Seahawks would go on their biggest scoring rally in the eighth inning which allowed the Seahawks to obtain four runs and tie up the game. Junior outfielder Colin Thatcher (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) would record two RBI when he doubled to right field, scoring first-year Holden Marshall (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) and senior Michael O'Neill (Ocean City, Md./Stephan Decatur). The Seahawks would then score off first-year Stetson Cox's (Fallston, Md./Loyola Blakefield) single, bringing in sophomore outfielder Bennett Garner (Bowie, Md./Bowie). Tying up the game would be junior second baseman Zach Rowe (Davidsonville, Md./Calvert Hall) with a single to right field, scoring Cox.

Neither St. Mary's nor Salisbury would score in the ninth, advancing the game into an extra inning. At the top of the 10th, the Sea Gulls would take control and go on a seven-run rally for the 15-8 victory.

The Sea Gulls were led by senior first baseman Jake Dmiterchik (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen), who had four hits, three runs, and three RBI, while the Seahawks were paced by O'Neill's two runs, two hits, and one RBI. Thatcher finished the game with four RBI and one hit.

The Seahawks concluded the first game with eight runs on 12 hits while committing three errors.

The Seahawks would record two runs on five hits to wrap up the nightcap. The Seahawks would not see the scoreboard until the eighth inning. Salisbury would strike first with four runs in the first inning in the second game. The Sea Gulls would score again in the fifth inning.

The Seahawks would again find their momentum in the eighth inning. Cox would connect with the ball, tallying a single to right field and bringing in two runs as Marshall and senior third baseman Hayden Ferington (Centreville, Va./Westfield) crossed home plate.

The Sea Gulls were able to triumph over the Seahawks by registering nine runs in the ninth, highlighted by junior Tom LaBriola's (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) two-run double to left field with two outs.

Senior Garrett Pope (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) would receive the loss, taking his record to 1-3 after pitching 5.0 innings.

The Seahawks will return to the Hawk's Nest on Wednesday, March 30 for the second game of their season series with York College of Pennsylvania. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
