St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team (9-22, 5-13 CAC) closed out their Capital Athletic Conference season at home Saturday afternoon, dropping two games to No. 13/30 Frostburg State University (22-8, 13-5) with scores of 6-4 and 8-1.
The Seahawks would tally four runs on five hits with two errors to complete game one. Junior second baseman Zach Rowe (Davidsonville, Md./Calvert Hall) would set the Seahawk momentum with one hit and two RBI. Rowe would also contribute two double plays along with senior shortstop Hunter Mohler (La Plata, Md./Bishop McNamara) and senior first baseman Michael O'Neill (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur).
St. Mary's would get on the board with a four-run rally in the fifth inning. Rowe would have a big single that would bring in outfielders Matt Bieler (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Colin Thatcher (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley).
Despite the Seahawks' hard work, the Bobcats would be able to grab one more run in the sixth inning to put them at a two-run lead. The Bobcats' senior second baseman KJ Hockaday (Joppa, Md./John Carroll) would lead Frostburg with two runs, three hits, and one RBI. The Bobcats had six runs on 10 hits with no errors.
The Seahawks' first-year outfielder Holden Marshall (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) would have a strong showing in game two. Marshall would add two hits with one being a triple to centerfield. Rowe, O'Neill, and senior Hayden Ferington (Centreville, Va./Westfield) would work defensively and help contribute in two double plays.
Despite the Seahawks' efforts and one run that came in the first inning, Frostburg would be able to cap the Seahawks with eight runs. The Bobcats secured the win in the ninth inning with three runs. Senior outfielder Pat Sines (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett) would lead the way with two runs, three hits, and one run while Hockaday would have a strong second game with one run, two hits, and one RBI. Frostburg finished with a total of eight runs on twelve hits with no errors.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Tuesday, April 26 as they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on The Catholic University of America in non-conference action at 4:00 p.m.
