St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team scored in the third minute and never looked back as action opened up at the Eighth Annual Seahawk Classic. Senior captain Nick Tait (Silver Spring, MD/Sandy Spring Friends School) tallied his third goal of the season to help push the Seahawks to a record of 3-0-1.

St. Mary's (Md.) 1, Gustavus 0

How It Happened

  • With only about three minutes into the game, Tait scored on a high chip from junior defender Andrew Battin (Boyds, Md./Clarksburg) to give the Seahawks the early advantage.
  • The stingy St. Mary's defense only allowed five shots on goal throughout the game while yielding only five corners.
  • Junior goalkeeper Zack Haussler (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) preserved the shutout with a season-best five stops of his own on the day.

  • Scorers: Tait (1 goal); Battin (1 assist).
  • Goalkeeper: Haussler (5 saves, 0 goals allowed, 90:00)
  • St. Mary's finished the match with 14 shots and eight corner kicks.

For Gustavus (1-4-0)

  • In the other match of the Seahawk Classic, Bridgewater (Va.) College and Salisbury University played to a 0-0 draw.

Up next for the Seahawks
