Seahawk Baseball Wraps Up CAC Series with Wesley

Dover, Del. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team would suffer a 13-4 setback at Wesley College Wednesday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. With the win, Wesley completed the two-game season series sweep of the Seahawks.

How It Happened

  • Junior third baseman Dan McCann (Laurel, Md./Atholton) took advantage of a throwing error, allowing him to find home plate for the first run of the game in the first inning.
  • The Wolverines would go on a four-run scoring rally, including a three-run homer by junior Aaron Briggs (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney), in their half of the first inning.
  • St. Mary's would go scoreless for four innings while the Wolverines contributed four runs entering the top of the sixth with an 8-1 lead. The Seahawks would answer with a run in the sixth as first-year first baseman Jay Hammett (Coltons Point, Md./Chopticon) singled down the left field line, bringing in first-year right fielder Timmy Prenger (Phoenix, Md./Calvert Hall) for the Seahawks' second run.
  • Wesley would lead 12-2 by the end of the seventh inning.
  • The Seahawks would bring in two more runs in the eighth inning while Wesley would score one more run to end the game and secure the conference win.

For St. Mary's (8-19, 2-14 CAC)

  • Hitting: Prenger (2-for-3, 2 runs, double); Hammett (2-for-4, RBI); McCann (2-for-4, run)
