How It Happened

  • Seahawk senior LHP Ben Goldsmith (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) would pitch his second complete game of the season, throwing the shutout win for his first victory of the season as he faced 35 batters. Goldsmith scattered seven hits and struck out three with no walks.
  • St. Mary's would score both runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • Sophomore centerfielder Lucas Kraft (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) would set the play up with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring senior catcher Matt Bieler (Bowie, Md./Bowie) for a 1-0 lead with two outs. Bieler singled to lead off the inning, stole second, and went to third on a fly out.
  • The second run would come from senior leftfielder Dane Pepper (Reston, Va./Montrose Christian) singled to centerfield to bring home junior third baseman Dan McCann (Laurel, Md./Atholton). McCann had singled to centerfield and stole second before scoring.

How It Happened

  • The Seahawks and Marymount would end inning one with a tied score of 1-1. Sophomore shortstop Brandon Snow (Owings, Md./Northern) would double to centerfield to bring in first-year designated hitter Jay Hammett (Coltons Point, Md./Chopticon), who ran in from first base.
  • The Saints would answer in the third inning, going on a three-run rally and taking a 4-1 lead over St. Mary's.
  • After four scoreless innings and MU leading 5-1, the Seahawks would gain momentum and score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to 5-3. Senior second baseman Zach Rowe (Davidsonville, Md./Calvert Hall) scored off a balk and soon after Snow would capitalize on a Saint error for the Seahawks' third run of the game.
  • However, it would not be enough to shut down the Saints as they went on a three-run rally in the seventh and tacked on another in the ninth.

For St. Mary's (8-16, 2-11 CAC)

For Marymount (13-15, 7-8 CAC)

  • Hitting: Karlis Graubics (2-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI, stolen base); Marlon Mitchell (2-for-2, 3 RBI, 2 doubles); Lorenzo Calderon (2-for-5, run, stolen base)
