Newport News, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team opened up Capital Athletic Conference action on the road Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader at No. 10 Christopher Newport University (18-4, 3-0 CAC). St. Mary's (6-5, 0-2 CAC) was shutout in the first game, 8-0, before taking an 11-3 setback in the nightcap.

How It Happened
- CNU scored a run in each of the first three innings before exploding for five in the fourth, including a solo home run by Seth Woodard.
- Logan Harrelson quieted the Seahawk bats with nine strikeouts through seven innings of action as Harrelson improved to 3-0 on the season.
- Redshirt sophomore infielder Jay Hammett (Coltons Point, Md./Chopticon), senior catcher Sean Goodie (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun), and first-year designated hitter Joey Bryner (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) each tallied hits for St. Mary's with Hammett and Goodie each connecting for a double.

How It Happened
- The Captains jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with three runs in the first inning.
- St. Mary's got one back in the top of the third. First-year infielder Andy Collins (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, went to second on a wild pitch, and then came home on a single through the right side by redshirt junior infielder Dan McCann (North Laurel, Md./Atholton) for the Seahawks' first run of the day.
- CNU picked up another three runs in its half of the third to stake a 6-1 margin.
- Junior infielder Matt Ansaldi (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) smacked a two-run home run in the fourth, the first of his career, as the second batter of the inning to cut the deficit in half. Goodie scored as well after leading off the inning with his second double of the afternoon.
- St. Mary's would be held scoreless the rest of the game while the Captains notched three in the fifth, including a two-run homer by Craig Johnson, and two more in the sixth for the 11-3 final.

- First-year RHP Will Spanoghe (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's-Annapolis) suffered his first loss of the season, falling to 1-1 as Spanoghe struck out three and walked one in three innings of play.
