Buena Vista, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team reached the double-digit win plateau Saturday afternoon following a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader split at Southern Virginia University. St. Mary's (10-16, 3-13 CAC) claimed the first game, 14-6, before the Knights (16-15, 7-8 CAC) responded with a 17-17 victory in the nightcap.
How It Happened (Game 1)
- The Seahawks overcame a 6-4 deficit in the eighth as they exploded for 10 runs on seven hits and three errors. First-year Connor Coursey (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) sparked the 10-run rally with a two-RBI double to right field. After a bases loaded hit by pitch to junior Holden Marshall (Towson, Md./Friends), first-year Andy Collins (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) connected on an RBI double to right field. The highlight of the inning came when first-year Joey Bryner (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) stepped up to the plate for the second time in the inning and cracked his first career grand slam to break open the game.

- Bryner notched his first multiple-RBI game of the season with a season-best four RBI while Coursey collected his second multiple-RBI game of the season as he drove in three.
- First-year LHP Jackson Edelman (Cherry Hill, Md./Cherry Hill East) improved to 5-4 on the season as Edelman yielded 10 hits, four earned runs, and three walks in 7.0 innings of work with two strikeouts to 31 batters faced.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- The nightcap featured seven home runs and 11 extra-base hits in all.
- St. Mary's struck first in the second inning as Bryner scored on a passed ball after drawing a walk in his at-bat.
- After the Seahawks staked a 2-0 lead in the third behind Marshall's leadoff homer, Southern Virginia responded with six runs in its half of the third, connecting on three dingers.
- The Knights added two more in the fourth keyed by a leadoff home run by Jordan Keefer and then tacked on five additional runs in the fifth as Ryan Saunders cracked a three-run long ball.
- Bryner collected his second home run of the day in the sixth with a one-out solo shot, cutting the deficit to 13-3.
- St. Mary's pulled within 13-7 following a three-run rally in the eighth as the Seahawks scored three runs on two hits and three errors.
- The Seahawks would get no closer as they were limited to a one-out double in the ninth before SVU turned a double play to end the game.
