Seahawks Fall in Game Three at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball (8-25-1, 2-18-1 CAC) fell in game three of the series to the University of Mary Washington Eagles (14-20, 7-14 CAC) on Sunday (Apr. 28) afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. The loss concludes the 2019 season for the Seahawks.

How It Happened

  • St. Mary's College jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning with an RBI single from Dakota Merritt and RBI triple from Bowen Plagge. The Eagles responded in the bottom half of the inning with six runs to capture a 6-4 advantage.

  • The Seahawks captured the lead once again in the fourth inning with three runs. The short scoring burst was highlighted by a two RBI double from Jay Hammett. Mary Washington outscored the Seahawks 8-3 for the remainder of the game to capture the victory and the series sweep.

Inside the Box Score

  • Merritt led the Seahawks from the plate with three hits in four at-bats. In addition, Merritt accounted for one RBI and two runs scored. Hammett and Plagge led St. Mary's College with two RBI each.

  • Plagge started the game on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing just one earned run. Additionally, Plagge struck out six batters. Tyson Johnson, Tim Hand, Drew Sturgess, and Nick Testoni pitched in relief.
