Seahawks Pick Up Win in Season Opener

Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, MD- The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team (1-0) picked up their first win of the season this afternoon (Feb. 19th) against non-conference opponent Mount Saint Mary (0-2) in a six-inning contest. The final score was 16-6.

How It Happened
  • St. Mary's College grabbed an early lead, scoring the first six runs of the contest. The Seahawks were able to capitalize on a wild pitch to capture the first two runs of the game. In the second inning, Max Elliot was able to knock in a RBI double to extend the Seahawk lead early, 6-0. St. Mary's was able to capitalize once again in the third inning off of a Dan Weeden RBI double. The Seahawks led 8-1 after three innings.

  • The offensive explosion continued into the fifth inning, where the Seahawks scored three runs. George Berbakos came through with a huge RBI triple, while Garrett Pulliam and Derrick Booker both contributed RBI singles.  

  • The Seahawks finished with their foot on the gas, capitalizing off of some errors from Mount Saint Mary and scoring another three runs in the sixth inning. Tyson Johnson had a solid outing, pitching the full six innings, striking out four and recording a 2.00 era.
Inside the Box Score
  • Derrick Booker and Garrett Pullium led the charge offensively for the Seahawks. Booker finished with two hits and two RBI's. Pullium had three hits and contributed an RBI
  • Tyson Johnson started on the mound for the Seahawks and went the full six innings, striking out four and posting a 2.00 era. Johnson faced 29 batters in his first win of the year.
