Seahawks Drop Back and Forth Contest Against Penn State Abington

St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team (5-5) began a three-game series with Penn State Abington this afternoon (Mar. 25). The Seahawks fell to the Nittany Lions 13-9. 

How It Happened

  • The scoring began in the second inning for both teams. The Nittany Lions were able to strike first before Derrick Booker launched a triple to deep left center, bringing home two runs to knot the game up at two. Both teams were able to bring a runner home an inning later to tie things up at three after the bottom of the third.   

  •  The Nittany Lions were able to put two more runs on the board in the fourth innings to take a two point lead. George Berbakos was able to respond for the Seahawks by connecting on a single that brought a St. Mary's base runner home to cut the lead back to one. Penn State Abington was able to score two more in the fifth inning to extend their lead to three. St. Mary was able to come right back thanks to an RBI from Brett Rothman to once again trim the deficit to two. St. Mary's trailed Penn State Abington 7-5 after five innings of play. 

  • The Nittany Lions were able to tack on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a five point lead, their largest of the afternoon. The Seahawks responded right back with RBI's from George Berbakos and Garrett Pulliam to cut the deficit to three. The Nittany Lions then went on a run, scoring three unanswered points to take a 13-7 lead into the bottom of the eighth. In a game of runs, the Seahawks once again responded with two runs of their own thanks to RBI's from Ian Walters and Brett Rothman. St. Mary's was unable muster up enough offense to take the lead back and ultimately fell 13-9 in eight innings.
